This weekend only, Port Sanilac Lighthouse is opening the restored keepers house and allowing the public to tour the first and second floors guided by knowledgeable docents in small groups. This is a great opportunity to see history first hand. In this tour you will be guided through the historic light tower and house.
During the light tower tour, you’ll climb up 50-step tower with its views out into Lake Huron and experience the unique feeling of traveling back in time like a lighthouse keeper. Up the spiral staircase and a shipman’s ladder, this brick tower boasts unparalleled views from the lantern room at the tower top. View the harbor and marinas and see the commercial shipping traffic going by. Knowledgeable, passionate volunteer Lighthouse keeper docents share some local history. View signage at the base of the tower on the history of the Fresnel lens and view the original 1886 Port Sanilac Fresnel lens at the base of the tower.
No reservations are necessary and first come are first-served. The tour lasts about 10 or so minutes if there is no wait upon your arrival and the last tour is offered 15 minutes prior to closing.
